How to recolor illustrations in PowerPoint, Google Slides and Canva
Published: 10月 6, 2026
How you recolor an illustration depends on the app you use. This guide explains the difference between SVG and PNG, then walks through PowerPoint, Google Slides and Canva.
First: SVG or PNG?
| SVG | PNG | |
|---|---|---|
| When enlarged | Lines stay crisp at any size | Becomes blurry if enlarged too much |
| Changing colors | Some apps let you change them later | Hard to change later |
| Supported by | PowerPoint (Microsoft 365), Canva and others | Almost every app |
When in doubt, choose the colors before you save. On FreeIconBazaar you can change the line and fill colors on each illustration’s page and then save as SVG or PNG — or give up to 10 illustrations the same colors and download them as one ZIP. The colors then stay the same in any app.
PowerPoint
PowerPoint in Microsoft 365 can insert SVG files directly.
- Choose Insert → Pictures and select the SVG file you saved
- Select the illustration and pick a color with Graphics Fill on the Graphics Format tab
Graphics Fill turns the whole illustration into one color. To give the lines and the inside (the white parts) different colors, right-click the illustration, choose Convert to Shape and recolor each part. With many parts that takes a while, so when you want separate line and fill colors, recoloring on FreeIconBazaar before saving is faster and more reliable.
Google Slides
Google Slides cannot import SVG files directly, so save a PNG and insert that. Because PNG colors are hard to change later, set the colors on FreeIconBazaar first.
- Change the line and fill colors on FreeIconBazaar
- Pick a size (512px or 1024px) and save the PNG. Use 1024px if the illustration will be large on the slide
- In Google Slides, choose Insert → Image → Upload from computer
Canva
Canva accepts SVG uploads and lets you change some colors afterwards. However, Canva limits how many colors it can change, and black fills can be hard to recolor. If your color scheme is already decided, uploading an SVG or PNG recolored on FreeIconBazaar is the reliable route.
Summary
- In any app, the reliable method is to recolor before saving
- PowerPoint uses SVG directly and can switch it to one color instantly
- Google Slides needs PNG
- Canva limits the number of colors, so decide colors in advance
To give several illustrations the same colors, select them in the list and use “Recolor together” — one step for all of them.
